Outreach

I wholeheartedly believe that science is for everyone and anyone. To that end, I have been involved in several volunteer and outreach programs over the years. I also include a link of resources to help others that stumble across this page in the hopes of encouraging them to pursue something in science, and in the process, learn something about themselves and our place in the universe.

Volunteering

I am a current mentor through the American Physical Society. In the National Mentoring Community, I help historically underrepresented students in physics transition from their undergraduate journey to life afterwards. This typically involves helping students consider whether to pursue academia or industry. Additionally, I provide resources to undergraduate physicists to help them apply to graduate school, and I also review their personal and research statements. If you are an undergraduate and would like to arrange a brief meeting with me, please do not hesitate to reach out!

While I was abroad, I participated in Reach the World, where I was paired with a K-12 classroom to discuss my experiences living in a different country. I was fortunate to be paired with my old high school, so I was able to interact with students in physics and held monthly calls to answer their questions about life outside the U.S., as well as other experiences as a physics researcher. I also wrote journal entries that described my trip overseas and would encourage others to do the same.

During my time at Cornell, I was involved in the Space Exploration for STEAM Inspiration program. I developed a science project for elementary school students that aimed to teach them more about astronomy. I created a presentation for third graders along with interactive demonstrations to help them better understand the vastness of the solar system. This project met New York state education standards and was aimed at helping Ithaca students from marginalized socioeconomic backgrounds.

Resources

I am extremely fortunate to be supported by the NSF’s Graduate Research Fellowship Award. I am aware of how highly competitive this award is, so if you would like advice on applying or would like to view parts of my application, please also reach out to me.

Additionally, I was supported by a U.S. Fulbright Award to conduct research in Italy. While this was only 9 months long, it was life-changing. I now encourage everyone I meet to at least consider applying because it was truly transformative for me. Again, please feel free to contact me if you have questions about the application process or would like to view my application.

I have participated in many opportunities over the years, ranging from summer classes to summer schools. To encourage others to pursue science, and learning in general, I have assembled a spreadsheet with the opportunities that have been afforded to me. This starts with my high school experiences all the way to my current experiences as a graduate student. I have also provided study resources that I have used (and continue to use) in the hopes of showing everyone that it is possible to learn anything if you have the right resources and believe in yourself.
